What to expect from a Breathwork Session?

Breathwork is usually practiced within a group environment under the guidance of a trained facilitator, although individual sessions and retreats are also available. In group settings, participants are paired as "breathers" and "sitters," with the sitter providing support as needed to ensure the breather's safety and comfort.

During the session, the facilitator directs the breathers to increase the speed and depth of their breathing, keeping their eyes closed. Sessions typically last between 2 to 3 hours, during which breathers lie down on a mat, allowing for unrestricted movement led by their breath patterns.

The session is accompanied by rhythmic music designed to induce an altered state of consciousness. The music progresses from drumming to ‘heart music’ and finally transitions to meditative sounds. Participants are encouraged to freely express themselves through movement and vocalization.

After the session, participants engage in mandala drawing and discussion to reflect on their experiences, which may include the resurfacing of past traumas, feelings of joy, or spiritual insights. The aim is for holotropic breathwork to serve as a catalyst for addressing personal issues and fostering self-discovery.

Participants alternate roles as breathers and sitters in subsequent sessions.

What do I need for the session?

  • Wear comfortable and loose clothing in which you can stretch.
  • Carry an eye mask, pillows, blanket if you prefer to use your own.
  • Come on a light stomach condition (neither too full, nor empty stomach)
  • Carry a water bottle with you
